TAKING YOUR SHOES ON AND OFF PROPERLY

Simple but effective

    4.2/5 179

You may well believe that you already learned how to take your shoes on and off as a toddler. That is true of course, but we are concerned with doing this in a way that best preserves your high-quality leather shoes.

By partly undoing the laces when taking your shoes off, you are already halfway there. Some would prefer to save time and effort here. It seems like a paradox, but is true: you can easily find a way of slipping out of a tightly tied shoe, but it is almost impossible to put it back on without adjusting it first. On the one hand, this has to do with the fact that leather shoes, when worn, become warm and slightly moist, which makes them somewhat softer and more flexible than they are when they are cold. You could even compare it to how easy to it is to get out of a parking space, but how difficult it can be to get in. This is why we always recommend undoing the laces to make the shoes easy to take off. This does not mean just loosening the upper eyelets, but right down to the middle of the lacing.

The other half of the battle is using a handy shoehorn to help you to handle your shoes with the care they deserve. This way, the heel cap, heel stitching and the shaft will not become unduly strained or worn out.

The correct way to take off shoes is to do so by hand. After undoing the bow, loosen the lacing a little and remove the shoe from the foot by hand.

This is good for the shoe, which will be your trusted companion for years to come in return. If you put this tip into practice, along with our information about correctly caring for the interior (shoe tree) and exterior of the shoe (shoe polish), then you are guaranteed to enjoy wearing your Sioux shoes for a very long time.

Cleaning your shoes correctly

Shoe cleaning is an art in itself and a task that fewer and fewer people are unfortunately taking the time to do. This is a shame because shoes are at their best when they are cleaned and maintained well. Not only this, but we also believe that it puts people in good stead and gives off a neat and orderly overall impression to not only take pride in their outer clothing, but also keep their footwear well-maintained. “Smart up top, casual on the bottom” is not a motto that we recommend following for your style inspiration, even with laid-back fashion trends that are popular nowadays.
